Another excellent hour of tv!! though ill be honest, on LOST standards, i found this episode to only be a little about average. i think it had to do with the lack of Ben...not sure though...

Sawyer was stellar, as usual...lots of quotes to pick from..for know i'll for with let's go save the nerd

it seems more obvious that Ms Hawkins is Mrs. Faraday given that charles said that she was in LA

i teared up when Desmond revealed that his son's name is Charlie

more of my thoughts to come later...

I'd be willing to bet a small fortune that Ms Hawking is Daniel's mother. People keep saying that it would be too obvious if this was the case, but sometimes the most obvious answer is the correct one - Remember Ben's inside man on the freighter? Need I say more?

Desmond was great in this episode. Was good to see him taking centre stage after the limited screen time he had in the first two episodes. I loved his no-nonsense approach with Charles Widmore, definitely an effective way of dealing with him, lol. And Desmond and Penny naming their son Charlie was sweet. I also liked Desmond talking about "the island" to said infant. Very Happy

I always feel that episodes are much stronger if we get a little bit of everyone and the only negative thing about this episode was the lack if Ben, Hurley, Jack, Sayid, etc. But I suppose things would be too rushed, or perhaps the plot would take longer to advance, if all the stories were squashed into every episode...

Praise the Gods! An episode of lost that doesn't feature "jack-ass"

Anywho.....

That episode certainly answered a few questions.

Richard Alpert & John Locke

He's old, Juliet said so. I started to think that he could just be a time jumping rabbit, like Daniel, but apparently not.

His visit to John finally made sense, he said that they choose their leaders at a very early age. This has to be an honest comment. One word BEN, oh and who happened to bump into him as a kid... Richard.

John told richard when he would be born. In a previous episode we had richard present at the hospital just after John's birth.

John also told Richard that he was now the leader of the others. In that same earlier episode we saw Richard visit John as a young boy and show him various items. After being asked to take what's his, he appeared to fail the test. (if memory serves he chose a compass, could it have been Richard's)
This could have two meanings, either:

a) John was being interviewed as a candidate for mayor of New Othersville.
b) Richard was just "checking" to see if what John said in "jughead" was indeed correct.

The way Richard stormed off in the "interview" looked like he had just wasted his time and that John had failed.
However John could have indeed passed the test and Richard could have been shocked or scared that john would grow up to become either leader or Damien haha. John could even be set to replace Jacob he does have a VERY STRONG connection with the island.

Daniel Faraday & Charles Widmore

We learned that Charles was funding Daniel's time/space research. I don't know how Daniel managed to get to the island when the DI was being set up. However it couldn't have been that much of a  secret back then if we had builders and US military all stepping foot on the island.

I reckon that Faraday is Widmore's bitch, trying to determine a definite location of the island, or spy on the DI for him. Hence his knowledge of the tempest and the orchid, along with all of the documents on the freighter, the Dharma logos also appeared in Dan's journal. Of course Daniel isn't the sort of person that would do this for nothing, he received funding, and got to play with his science set.
Faraday must have been aware of Widmore's business an example of this can been seen when Daniel sees the remnants of "Oceanic 815"  why did he cry so much. Indeed knowing that so many people had died is upsetting but unless he's really sensitive he wouldn't cry..... Unless he knew what really happened!

However I'm not really bothered by Charles & Daniel's doings I'm more concerned with JUGHEAD:

We learned that a H-Bomb was on the island, leaking and that daniel was going to render it inert (like the gas)

Disposing of a H Bomb 101:

Daniel said to either use lead or concrete Unfortunately we flashed before we could see what happened to it.

I am lead (excuse the pun) to believe that the bomb was buried in the swan station Behind that concrete wall. This also explains the blast doors inside the station. I know it makes no sense to place a bomb within distance of a bunker but lets just see how this one rides out.

and what's more here are a couple of things radiation can do: Cause radiation sickness, cure cancer, maybe even have ill effects on pregnant women. (does this explain the shots Desmond took each day?)

Its a lot but its to make up for my absence hah Very Happy

See you soon.

"I reckon that Faraday is Widmore's bitch"

That's funny...

I thought Locke chose something other than the compass, like a knife wasn't it?
He had the compass there but Locke did not pick that.

And the whole thing about Richard being there when Locke was born.
wouldn't all this happen then before Locke was born for him to know to go see him at the hospital?
It's all so confussinggggggggggggggggggggggg.  Shocked

yeah locke tells richard that in 3 (maybe 2) years from now hell be born in cali and that if he didnt believe him to go and see for himself. I didnt look up what john chose i have a memory like a sieve so i'll check you are probably right though. brb

EDIT***

Taken from lostpedia:

Richard Alpert walks in the house and sits down at the table across from him. He introduces himself as Richard and tells John that he runs a school for special children and has reason to believe that John is one of them. Richard asks John if he minds if Richard shows him a couple of neat things, to which John shakes his head (indicating he does not mind). Richard notices a drawing on the wall of the room of a man lying on the ground while a mass of black springs from the ground and hangs over him, resembling an attack by the smoke monster. When asked by Richard if he drew the picture, John nods his head. The two walk to another table and sit down. Richard tells John that he wants him to look at a few objects, think about them, and tell him which of them are his. The boy thinks Richard means "to keep" but Alpert clarifies, "Which of these things belong to you already?" He lays out on the table a baseball glove, a book entitled "Book of Laws" (possibly referring to the holy text of the Bahá'í faith), a small container of granules, a compass, a comic book entitled "Mystery Tales", and a knife. John immediately claims the container of the granules and inspects and claims the compass. John starts towards the "Book of Laws", at which point Richard looks hopeful. Instead, he picks up the knife, to which Richard seems disappointed and angry. He asks John if he is sure, and after he nods affirmatively, Richard snatches the knife from his hand and takes the other items away.

This is a pic of Richard at the hospital when Locke was born too:

Also Richard was holding the compass when he disappeared so the compass had "Already belonged to him" (if we are to believe that this compass is the same one) but this would make sense and be the whole reason locke received the compass in the first place.

FURTHER EDIT**

In jughead (1954) we see the others in uniform and richard looking presentable ie clean shaved. However when we see him much later on (30 ish) years later, he's very scruffy. I'm talking about when ben walked into him as a child. o why did they decide to use these scruffy disguises?

Same here Cheryl!

Anyway my thoughts on the episode:

Firstly I want to say how much I'm growing to like Richard! He's such a cool episode! And I too was pleased that there was no Jack in this episode!

I'm sure now that Mrs. Hawkins is Daniel's mother epsecially after Widmore revealong Daniel's mother is in LA! Even my nan is guessing that she is his mother! Razz

Desmond was great in this episode and I love the fact that he and Penny now have a son and that his name is Charlie! Very Happy

It was also great to see Widmore on the island in the past! The history of the others and the island just gets more and more intriguing!

It was also great to see Daniel finally confess his love for Charlotte but I really hope that she isn't dead! I have to admit, that shot of him holding her right at the end really reminded me of Sayid holding Shannon's body at the end of "Abandonned".

I was shocked to see a hydrogen bomb was on the island and I can't believe its buried underneath the island! Lets just hope it doesn't go off any time soon! Very Happy

On the whole it was another great episode of Lost and I can't wait for episode 4!!!

I'd give this episode 7.5/10!!! Very Happy

John chose the compass, the granules & the knife. Richard freaked out when he chose the knife.

In my opinion, the granules in the container (also chosen by john) are what surrounds Jacob's cabin. So the "Jacob sent me" line adds up. The compass is the same one richard gave to Locke in 2005 hence the "take this compass or I wont believe you the next time we meet." line. Lockes always been associated with knives. But I don't know why Richard freaked out when Locke chose the knife.

These are my random ramblings so they probably don't make any sense. I'm being good this week and I'm watching tonight at 9.00. so I'm just trying to kill some time. haha  Very Happy
