Some really great extras found on `Lost' DVD

DVD pick of the week: As a regular viewer of Lost, I probably would have made its new DVD set my pick. But the extras made the decision easier, even before I began looking at the episodes again.

Lost: The Complete Second Season: The Extended Experience (Buena Vista, 24 episodes, seven discs, $59.99, in stores Tuesday) has such goodies as ``The World According to Sawyer,'' with writers and cast members talking about the expressions and allusions from Sawyer (Josh Holloway); an artsy promotional spot for British television and a ``Secrets From the Hatch,'' presenting details about the area as well as the construction of the set.

There are some extra flashbacks, deleted scenes, commentaries on five episodes and a nifty ``Lost connections'' feature that takes you from one character to another, with scenes highlighting how those two intersected. And the extras are presented as if they are elements within an old film presentation like the ones providing clues on the series itself.

A ``Mysteries, Theories and Conspiracies'' segment is disappointing, since it deals more with what fans have read into the show than what's actually there. Of course, more than once in the extras, you're reminded that the show is making up a lot of things as it goes along.

Phase 2 - THE LOST FLASHBACKS

Abandoned:
The Wake (Shannon & her step-mother)

The New Au Pair (shows Shannon meeting the family for whom she will be working as an au pair - you can see the father's interest in Shannon)

Lockedown:
Locke's father (just before the funeral Father Chuck asks Locke for personal details about his father for the funeral service but Locke doesn't know any of the answers)

Phase 2 - DELETED SCENES

Seeing Walt (Sun & Shannon)

A little you time (Charlie & Claire - Charlie lets Claire have some time to herself so he can borrow Aaron - with the intention of using him to wake Locke)

Sawyer's visitor (Libby & Sawyer - with him in the pit just after they first met)

Dinner time (A meal at Tailie camp)

Special Delivery (Tailies finding the crate of boomerangs)

Ana Lucia's prisoner (Libby & Sayid - when Sayid is tied up after Shannon's death)

Phase 3 - THEORIES
They reiterate how they're not going to cheat - it won't be just a dream nor them all being stuck in some kind of snowglobe.

They talk about forums/message boards, mentioning the Fuselage (brief interview with Karri Phillipsfrom the Fuselage)

They talk about the craziest theories, including ones about Hanso & Dharma

The castmembers discuss their own theories they've come up with whilst pondering stuff on the show & also some of the more ridiculous ones they've read about on message boards

Sun points out it's good to have lots of conflict within your character as the ones who have resolved their conflicts seem to be killed off.

Phase 3 - HATCH
The show it being constructed & discuss how it's shape and the look of it came about. They mention they were going to reveal more about the hatch in season 1 but they needed a better idea of where they were going with it first.

~ The beep when the timer reaches only 4 minutes left is from recordings of barcode noises from swiping groceries, etc in a supermarket/grocery store.

~ The mural was indeed painted by Desmond - supposed to reflect the angst & frustration at his being stuck there for 3 years.

~ In reality it was painted by Jack Bender - he used the mythology of Lost & ideas from stuff he'd already seen theorised about on Lost forums ... ie: Atlantis, I am sick from the mystery of the "sickness", the purple circles, eyes ... so fans theories were added into it, and then ironically the mural then got discussed to pieces by those same people to find the meanings in each separte part of the mural...LOL

~There are 9000 hash marks on the wall of all sizes which Desmond etched into the wall, depicting the days or weeks of his confinement in the Swan station.

~ They discuss the fact that being in the Hatch brings out the worst in all of them - Jack, Locke, etc ... It's like the devil, bringing out the worst aspect of each of them.

~ When they found the Pearl station which indicated the Swan station was meaningless, Locke's main realised that in sitting there pressing the button every 108 minutes he'd reverted to what he'd been in his previous life at the box company.

I have to get to work soon but shall update this later at some point.
I'll probably also have to edit several typos I'm bound to have made.
